Pace Your Peace.

“Life seems but a quick succession of busy nothings.” ~ Jane Austen
“It is better to do nothing than be busy doing nothing.” ~ Lao Tzu

In my journeys through traditional therapies and traditional recovery programs, I noticed that some of us seem to be bombarded by this notion that ‘busy is better.’ Ya know, “Idle hands are the devils workshop,” kinda thing. We seem to have lost touch in our fast-paced society where production is the key to our self worth. We are caught being busy with many insignificant things rather than a select number of important things that fire our passion and purpose. We lose touch with our soul purpose to simply “be” and we then become a Jack of all Trades, Master of None.

Stop glorifying busy. Downtime and alone-time are essential for self-reflection, solitude, peace of mind and learning the skills to master living in the present. Pace your peace. This isn’t a race against anyone but ourselves. If we are too busy to even know ourselves fully, we have already lost. We must stop and ask, “What is it we are running away from?”

The world is going to tell us day in and day out what is important and what is worthy of our attention. It is our job to be firm in knowing and expressing what is important to our personal growth and well-being.

Xoxo, Lizzy
