“She was never crazy. She just didn’t let her heart settle in a cage. She was born wild, and sometimes we need people like her. For it’s the horrors in her heart which cause the flames in ours. And she was always willing to burn for everything she has ever loved.” Robert M. Drake
“The Phoenix is a mythical bird that consciously consumes itself in flames to be reborn new from its ashes. The myth refers to our creative spirit and the free will and choice we each possess to recreate ourselves. It depicts the process of transformation that we each much under go as our consciousness evolves. The phoenix myth is in many ways the door way to our freedom as beings of unlimited creativity to create the reality we choose. It provides a key understanding of the creative process.”
Welcome to The Phoenix Sketchbook Project. This is my personal creative and healing journey through uncharted territory into the depths of personal evolution, spiritual emergence and creative consciousness.
As a creative writer and artist, I am not new to this idea that something must be sacrificed in order to create something new. Usually it is a piece of ourselves.
When it comes to rebirth in my altruistic crusade to recreate my creative self in order to heal, help others in their personal transformations and evolution, and to eventually be at the forefront of a paradigm shift within the mental health system, I have been reborn many times over and can say with confidence that I am well-versed.
I was diagnosed with Bipolar One in 2010 and I am recovering from alcohol addiction and trauma. This is not the story of the last decade of my life and the trials I faced day in and day out through traditional methods of recovery (which you can find in the skeletons of my old blog, On The Rocks), this blog is about the here and now and the transformative process I am undergoing as I take a leap of faith from traditional treatment methods into unorthodox modes of healing.
I have been balancing on this razor-thin edge for much too long and as energy and manifestation accelerate, I am gently, yet swiftly, reminded that my purpose on this Earth is at hand. After decades of brutal inner work, glorious and sometimes painful transformations, spiritual experiences and trials by fire, my wings are now ready.
I invite you to tag along as I take this leap into healing thyself first through art and the divinely guided writing process. I have control of the intention I put out into this Universe, but I have very little authority when it comes to what this will look like and how it will manifest itself in my life. I am willing to be blown away, as I can only hope we all are in each of our lives.
